How to Adopt a Successful Mindset for Freelancing
Congrats! You've decided to go out on your own. There will be many next steps in this process - and it might feel a little overwhelming to know what to do next. In our opinion, the first step to creating a successful freelance biz, side hustle, or small biz is making sure you have the right mindset. Here are a few ways to get your mindset in check.
Why does your mindset matter?
A healthy mindset is what will keep you going - especially through the rough days.
What are limiting beliefs, and do you have any holding you back?
Limiting beliefs are the beliefs we hold about ourselves that aren't true and hold us back from becoming who we want to be. Limiting beliefs can hold you back from doing what you want to do. They can sound like "I'm not smart enough to run my own business" or "I'm not experienced enough to teach others how to .." or "I'm not good at money, so I won't be good at managing my business finances."
When you go into business for yourself, it is essential to identify your limiting beliefs about yourself, so you don't unintentionally sabotage your success.
Start by writing down all your thoughts about yourself and your abilities. Then, turn any negative patterns into positive ones. For example, the limiting belief, "I'm not experienced enough to teach others about my industry," could change into a brand new thought, "My experience will help others in my industry." Or "I'm not good at money" could change to, "I have many things to learn about my business and I'm looking forward to it."
Set up your space for success.
Once you've cleared your mindset, set up your environment for success. Will you be working from home? Set up a designated space for work separate from your living space., even if you live in a small space - create a clean space with minimal distractions. Be sure to include things that inspire you - inspirational quotes, posters, or a nice view, if possible.
At the end of the day, you've made the decision to go out on your own which is an essential first step. You should be proud!
