Entrepreneurial Self-Love: Prioritizing Mental Health in Your Business Journey
Entrepreneurs are often romanticized as individuals who possess the freedom to work wherever and whenever they please. The reality can be far from glamorous. Behind the scenes lies the untold story of the blood, sweat, and tears poured into every aspect of the business, simply to keep it afloat. The pressure of shouldering every role within the company is immense: you become the receptionist, the accountant, the marketer, the service provider, the janitor, and the list goes on. The toll this takes on one's mental health is substantial.
I ventured into entrepreneurship seeking to reclaim my mental well-being. After nearly a decade confined to cubicles, I found myself in a dark place. On paper, I held my dream job, yet I wasn't happy.
The decision to venture out on my own proved to be the best choice. However, entrepreneurship brings its own set of challenges and stressors—a new, different kind of pressure. From one entrepreneur to another, here's how I've been attempting to prioritize my mental health.

Why your small business needs social media
Social media is no longer optional for small businesses. Don't believe me? Here are all the excuses I've heard from clients over the years (and proof that they're not valid).
"It's too late for me to join social media."
That statement is incorrect. My friend, a small business owner, spent the past couple of years working hard to grow his business. He tried EVERYTHING to grow his followers and sell his products online. It was a very slow process, and he often pivoted services, added new revenue streams, and kept trying the next best idea to grow his business. After rolling his eyes at me about creating a TikTok account for months, he finally gave it a try. Within a few short months, he now has 100K+ followers and has tremendously increased sales from producing content on TikTok alone. I promise you, if you have a story to tell, it's not too late for you.
"My business sells to other businesses, so social media wouldn't help me."
False. Social media is an excellent tool for networking with other companies, showcasing your portfolio, keeping an eye on industry updates, becoming an industry thought leader, and connecting with potential new clients.
“I sell to an older generation, and they're not on social media.”
Also false. Though the Boomer generation does engage with social media less than other generations, boomers tend to be more interested in Facebook as 68% of this generation uses this social platform. However, according to data from Statista from last year, 70% of boomers say they regularly use YouTube. Additionally, if you sell products to this generation, you also have to consider that you're actually selling to other generations of family members and caregivers in some cases.
"I don't have a story or anything interesting to share on social media."
I'm not going to lie, it's something I've struggled with as well for my branding. But the truth is, every one of us has a story. Sharing things from your point of view, the lessons you've learned, and the why behind what you do is the fastest way to relate to and connect with your community.
Being vulnerable isn't easy, but it's usually worth it. So if you've been looking for a sign to stop scrolling and start posting-this is it! This is your sign!
